Metropolis – Metropolis

Metropolis, an ancient greek word which means “mothercity”, a huge meaningful place. In such one you see yourself in front of your inner eye while listening to the new self titled record of the artist Metropolis.
Under the label Future 80’s Records Metropolis releases the perfect music to listen to while driving a testarossa through the city or hunting criminals wearing a trenchcoat. Pulsating beats keep sustained for the duration of 27 minutes and accompany you through the night.

Decorated with a coverart by Ivan Nekhoroshkov who compresses the feeling of the pink synthwave glasses perfectly in an artwork that underlines the experience of being a small cog in this living and breathing city.

The monologue that greets you on the first track “Arrival” sums up what you can expect in the following seven tracks: “I can feel the neonlights pulsating in my bloodstream, and I felt alive again”.

Der anfängliche Monolog im eröffnenden Track “Arrival” fasst gut zusammen was einen in den kommenden sieben Tracks erwartet: ”“I can feel the neonlights pulsating in my bloodstream, and I felt alive again”.

Megaman Synthwave tribute

Another one of our childhood heroes has recently got a full-on synthesizer soundtrack makeover: #megaman ! The little blue android with a cannon arm gave us many fun hours of gaming, but also strained our patience quite a bit with it’s ridiculous level of difficulty. If you, like us, love #retro games, synths and soundtracks go check it out!

Robert Parker – End of the Night

Our friend Robert Parker just dropped his new album “End of the Night”. As we are already accustomed to from him, we get presented with a beautifully crafted piece of art. We instantaneously get a feeling of vacation while listening. Compared to the previous albums, “End of the Night” has more vocal tracks, which we personally liked a lot – and a lot of them are extremely catchy. We can’t wait to hopefully hear the new material live soon!

Morgan Willis – Supernova

Tonight we want to present one of our favorite recent releases: “Supernova” by MORGAN WILLIS. As the beautiful artwork by @marqueeadam666 suggests, it is truly the 80s anime space opera you have always wanted in musical form. Our favorite track by far is “Professor Omega” – smashing and highly dancefloor compatible. Be sure to check it out at Bandcamp:Supernova

Gloom Influx – Voyageur

One of our greatest new discoveries is “Voyageur”, the second album of French-Canadian artist Gloom Influx . The album is an exceptional mix of (dark) synths with some very clear (and awesome) metal influences. This is anywhere between excitingly experimental (“Generator”, “Injustice”) and beautifully classic (“Challenger”) in it’s composition. In its bandwidth it really reminds us of the old Psyclon Nine in some aspects Because we have very different tastes, we consequently have two different favorite songs on the album: “Signals” and “Annihilatior”. Give it a listen and tell us what you think!

Straplocked and Ray Gun Hero – Stalemate

Today we want to present you a prime piece of new music that might have somewhat flown under the radar. Straplocked and raygunhero just released their album “Stalemate”. It’s a beautiful mixture of retrogaming inspired sounds and #cyberpunk vibes. “Common Grounds” sounds like right out of a long lost Turrican soundtrack. Favorite song of the album: “City Forgotten”. Definitely also make sure check out the other released by their label Burning Owl Records; great stuff there! 😎👌🎮🤖

Sung – Fahrenheit

Get some water and some ice, because Sung just dropped his new album “Fahrenheit”, and it is already one of the hottest albums of the year. After we were lucky enough to see one of his amazing live performances in Amsterdam just a few weeks ago, we already knew that this guy was bound to deliver something amazing and he sure did not disappoint us. While many artists excel in one style, be it the darker harsh beats with a strong bass line, dreamy ballads, or upbeat funky dance tracks, Sung shows us that he can do it all. The musical mood of the album changes so frequently that every song made us feel something different; and we loved it.

We start our journey on a high note: the opener “City Stars” immediately pulls you in and gets you moving. It is definitely the most danceable track on the album and we can’t wait to hear it in a club setting. The atmosphere shifts promptly as we move to the second track. “Cobalt Vision” takes us to a gloomy cyberpunk setting with a pressing baseline and distorted beats. From there, we move on to “Starlight Paradise”, a warm and dreamy place, where you can feel the sunset on your skin, underlined by atmospheric but upbeat synths. “Afterlife Club” is the second track on the album that we are sure will sound even better on the dancefloor. While less melodic than the opener, the rhythm is still irresistible, especially with the beautiful depth it transports. The next track, “Bayshore Route” could become a contender for our favorite cruising tune. Driving beats, mellow guitars and melodic synths make this one for driving into the sunset – but at high speed. The following “Silver Light” gets you back down, with a beautifully dreamy melody that one can’t help but get lost in. We stay in that state with the hypnotizing trancey “Up Hill”. With “Leap of Faith” and “ignition” we find two solid, classical synthwave songs, with the more upbeat “Ingition” having the potential to become another dancefloor favorite. “Life and Glory” taps into the 80s soundtrack sound, making it easy to like and on top super catchy. With “One Way” the album ends in wonderful melancholia, leaving you satisfied and wondering what will be next.
We certainly hope that Sung retains the incredible versatility of “Fahrenheit” on his future endeavors. While some tracks are not quite as memorable as others, this overall is simply a piece of supreme synthwave music.
