Das Solo Album von Boytronic Sänger James Knights, kurz Knights, „Dollars and Cents“ ist eine sehr erfrischende Mischung aus 80er Synthpop und Italodisco.
Das könnte unter anderem daran liegen, das einige der Titel auf dem Album von dem fantastischen Duo Fred Ventura und Paolo Gozzetti (auch bekannt als Italoconnection) produziert worden sind. Wir waren zutiefst beeindruckt, wie modern das Album klingt und doch starke Einflüsse aus der Disco und britischen New Wave Ära der frühen 80er verarbeitet.
Der Opening Track “What´s your Poison” kommt sehr funky daher mit einfachen, aber groovigen Bässen und einem sehr catchy Text. Unser Favorit ist allerdings der zweite Song und zeitgleich auch die erste Singleauskopplung „Gelato“, der das Tempo leicht erhöht und sehr an die Italodisco Lieder der 80er erinnert.
Im Ganzen ist es ein Album, das perfekt dafür gemacht ist, die Nacht durchzutanzen. Es gibt keinen einzigen Song, der negativ auffallen würde. Man merkt eher dass das Album durchweg einem roten Faden folgt – es gibt wenig Überraschungen was aber keines Falles etwas schlechtes ist. Die ganze Scheibe ist durchweg eine technisch saubere Sache und macht eine Menge Spaß!
The solo album from Boytronic singer James Knights, short Knights, “Dollars and Cents” is a refreshing mix between 80s synth pop and italo disco. This could, amongst others, be due to the fact that quite a few songs on the record are produced by the dream team of Fred Ventura and Paolo Gozzetti (also known as Italoconnection). We were deeply impressed how modern the album sounds while still incorporating strong influences from Disco and the britisch new wave era of the early 80s.
The opener „What’s your Poison” comes with an incredibly funky vibes with simple but groovy bass lines and super catchy lyrics. Our favorite, however, ist he second song and first single from the album, “Gelato”, which increases the pace quite a bit and is heavily influenced by the Italodisco songs of the 80s.
All in all, this is an album that was made for dancing through the night. There is not a single song that stands out in a negative way. One rather notices that there is a clear central theme throughout – there are no surprises, which is not at all a bad thing. The whole record is technically flawless throughout, and at the same time a lot of fun!
